If you’ve read any of Alfie’s Diary you are likely to be aware that he set up the Pet Dogs Democratic Party about 7 years ago. He’s currently busy pulling together all their policies into one document to be published as the Pet Dogs Democratic party Manifesto. They have policies on a wide range of subjects from health and education for dogs to issues of equality. At the moment he is claiming their first real victory, following news that Nottingham Constabulary is to pay pensions to its service dogs on retirement. The Party has long worked with slogans such as ‘Minimum wage for working dogs’ and called for pension rights for all dogs regardless of working status. He is showing unconcealed joy that at last they are making headway and it has given him all the impetus he needs to knuckle down to his writing.
